I used to read a decent amount of books until a couple of years back. I seem to have grown lazy over the years, and have almost given up the habit lately. I do watch a few films though, and have been averaging around 16 a year since 2021. This page is an attempt to curate a selection of the content I consumed and felt worthy of having a discussion on.
Books
- The Stranger [Jan'2024]
Albert Camus
I'm glad I finally read it. I could relate personally to the way Camus' protagonist dealt with absurdity at many places. However, I was left puzzled by his willingness to express so much aversion towards religion, when he wouldn't mind agreeing with others' views on so many other things, if it meant avoiding social interactions or getting what he wanted.
- Metamorphosis [Nov'2024]
Franz Kafka
Good stuff! Reminded me of the time my parents cried their lungs out when I said I may resign from my job and go back to studying.
Movies
- Merry Christmas [Jan'24]
Sriram Raghavan
Could easily be my Favourite film of the Year. Watched it twice, in Hindi and Tamil, enjoyed every bit of it.
- Malaikottai Vaaliban [Jan'24]
Lijo Jose Pellissery
Easily my least favourite work of Lijo. Although I am a huge fan of character driven films, the world in which the film is set in, the social constructs holding it together, and the over-the-top theatrical style of storytelling didn't work for me. I hope this was a one-time experiment.
- Bramayugam [Feb'24]
Rahul Sadasivan
Some good performances combined with decent technical work. Wasn't bored at the theatre, and that's about it.
- Manjummel Boys [Feb'24]
Chidambaram
A few great moments stood out for me in an otherwise flat, cliched narrative. Made me realize cliches aren't always necessarily bad.
- Premalu [Mar'24]
AD Girish
Though I'm not one for the romcoms, thoroughly enjoyed this one.
- Aavesham [Apr'24]
Jithu Madhavan
Best time I've had in a theatre so far this year.
